City of La Mirada, CA
For those who live in La Mirada, you understand the importance of the oil, walnut, lemon, and orange groves are to the community. Its very existence can be traced back to the planting of the oil groves. Purchased from Ranchers in 1888, the area which would eventually be called La Mirada was a humble town of 200 people.
Drawn there by the rich soil and beautiful groves, the olive oil industry really started to bring wealth and jobs to the area. It was also a planned city. In the 1950s, it attracted a lot of attention for being a city that was going to be planned for the future.
What started at just 100 homes swiftly turned to 8,000 as more people were attracted to the area. Today, the city is home to around 50,000 people. CNN, in 2006, called La Mirada as one of the best places to live.
The area has a pretty welcoming culture and prefers to accept people rather than shut them out. This has made the city a great place for young families to settle in and make their new home.
La Mirada is also known for the Christian School Biola University. Biola has been around for much of the time that La Mirada has been founded, and it has established itself as a formidable force in the University world. If you are a student at Biola University, chances are you are learning at any one of the amazing on campus schools such as Talbot (School of Theology), Rosemead School of Psychology, or Crowell School of Business. Having a lot of excellent degree programs sets Biola University apart from its competitors in the space of education. Also, if you are a student of Biola University and you have your own children, it is a great place to learn but also become a surrogate and earn money to pay off your school debt.
If you’ve been thinking about surrogacy and whether or not it’s the right career for you, then read on to find out more about surrogacy in California.
What is Surrogacy?
The process of surrogacy involves three people. The intended parents are those who suffer from infertility problems and are unable to produce a child of their own. Their infertility can range from many different problems.
One of those problems may rest with physical barriers that make it impossible for an embryo to travel from the fallopian tube to the womb. They may even prevent the sperm cell from being able to travel to the eggs in order to fertilize them.
Fertility problems may also rest with unhealthy sperm cells. There may not be enough to swim towards the egg cells. Or those that do exist may be too slow or be unable to move.
The health of the egg cells is important, too. If they have been damaged, then fertilization may not be able to occur traditionally.
The third partner in the process of surrogacy is the surrogate. These are women who carry the baby for the intended parents. The baby is formed through a process known as IVF or in-vitro fertilization. During IVF, the egg cells and sperm cells are collected from the intended parents.
They’re placed within a petri dish where they can find one another and unite. Sometimes the fertility clinic will fertilize several embryos in the event that they need another one. They may also choose to freeze the remaining egg and sperm cells in the event that they need to be used later.
Once the egg and sperm cells have united, they form an embryo. That embryo is then placed inside of the surrogate during a process known as embryo transfer. Before the embryo transfer can occur, the surrogate has to go through several fertility treatments, follow up fertility appointments as well as fertility medications to ensure her body is ready to accept an embryo.
Otherwise, she runs the risk of her body treating the embryo as a foreign invader. The body will reject it or she may have a miscarriage.
Just like with a normal and healthy pregnancy, you’ll carry the baby for nine months. You’ll also give birth to the baby. What kind of birth you perform is something you discuss with the intended parents. You may give a traditional birth or you may undergo a C-section.
Time is one of the biggest constraints that surrogates have to consider when they’re thinking about whether or not to become a surrogate in La Mirada. It takes more than just the standard nine months. You’re looking anywhere from a year to two years for each surrogate match with intended parents you undergo.
This is because it’s a lengthy process. There’s some time that’s required to join a surrogate agency. Mostly because it can take a few months for them to receive medical records that detail your past pregnancy.
Then there are the fertility treatments. Those can sometimes take several months to complete. If the body rejects the embryo, then you’ll have another few months of fertility treatments to undergo.
Once pregnant, you have nine months to grow and develop the baby. Then you’ll have a recovery period.
Luckily, you will receive compensation for your efforts.
