On this page, we’ll break down everything you need to know before starting your journey. You’ll learn the requirements to become a surrogate, how our compensation and benefits work, and what the process looks like from application to delivery.

Why Women Choose to Become Surrogates

A woman chooses to become a surrogate for many heartfelt and powerful reasons:

  • They’ve witnessed the heartbreak of infertility in someone they love and want to make a difference.
  • They’ve had smooth, joyful pregnancies and feel inspired to give that experience to someone else.
  • They feel a deep sense of purpose in helping create a family and leaving a lasting legacy.

Whatever your motivation, we’re here to walk with you, offering support, guidance, and care every step of the way.

Do You Meet the Surrogate Requirements to Become a Surrogate?

Before beginning your journey, all surrogates must meet certain health, lifestyle, and legal qualifications to ensure a safe and successful surrogacy experience for everyone involved. These requirements help protect you, the baby, and the intended parents and set the foundation for a smooth and supported surrogacy process. Some of the requirements to become a surrogate are:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be between 21 and 38 years old
  • Have had at least one healthy, full-term pregnancy
  • Have no more than two prior c-sections
  • Have a clean criminal record (including members of your household)

a happy pregnant woman

1. Apply and Connect

Becoming a surrogate begins with a simple application. Once submitted, a coordinator from our team will reach out for a discovery call to learn more about you, answer your questions, and explain the process in more detail.

2. Medical Records & Screening

We’ll help you collect your pregnancy and delivery records for review. You’ll also need a recent Pap smear and may be asked to complete a few basic health steps with your OB-GYN. This helps us confirm you’re physically ready for the surrogacy process.

3. Psychological & Background Screening Process

You’ll complete a psychological screening with a licensed professional to ensure emotional readiness. We’ll also conduct background checks for you and any adults in your household to protect everyone involved in the journey.

4. Matching With Intended Parents

Once approved, we’ll carefully match you with a family whose values, expectations, and communication style align with yours. You’ll have a chance to meet and connect before moving forward.

5. Legal Agreements

We’ll provide access to an experienced surrogacy attorney to walk you through your contract. This document protects your rights, defines your compensation, and outlines expectations for everyone involved.

6. Embryo Transfer Prep & IVF

You’ll begin IVF medications to prepare your body for the embryo transfer. Our team will coordinate closely with the fertility clinic and guide you through medication schedules, appointments, and what to expect along the way.

7. Pregnancy & Support

After a successful transfer and confirmation of pregnancy, your base compensation begins. You’ll attend regular prenatal visits and receive ongoing support from our team. You’ll also have access to resources like support groups, counseling, and maternity care.

8. Delivery & Celebration

You’ll deliver the baby and witness a family’s dream come true. It’s a powerful moment that marks the end of your journey and the beginning of theirs. Our team will continue to support you postpartum to make sure you’re cared for and celebrated. You have now done more than just become a surrogate; you have become the answered prayer of a family.

Frequently Asked Become a Surrogate Questions

Will the baby be biologically mine?

In gestational surrogacy (which is what we offer), the surrogate has no genetic connection to the baby. The embryo is created using the intended mother’ or donors’ egg and sperm from the intended father or sperm donor and is implanted through IVF.

Will I feel attached to the baby?

Most surrogates do not. Clear expectations and emotional support throughout the journey help ensure peace of mind.

Can I keep working during pregnancy?

Yes. Many surrogates continue working with OB approval.

How long does the surrogacy journey take?

On average, 14–20 months from application to delivery.

What if I carry twins?

You’ll receive additional compensation, and all related medical needs will be covered.

What is the surrogate matching process like?

Once you complete the application and are approved, you’ll be matched with intended parent’s who align with your preferences and values. This can take up to 3 months, depending on how quickly your records are submitted and approved.

What is included in the medical screening?

After matching, you’ll visit the fertility clinic for bloodwork, a physical exam (including a saline sonogram), and possibly additional tests like a hysteroscopy. If applicable, your partner may need to undergo testing as well.

What are my responsibilities as a surrogate?

You’ll need to attend medical appointments, take prescribed medications, communicate regularly with all parties, and follow through on all instructions for a safe and successful pregnancy.

How is compensation determined when I become a surrogate?

Base compensation varies based on your experience and whether you carry multiples. Lost wages, insurance, and all surrogacy-related expenses are fully covered.

What about the legal side of things?

You’ll sign a surrogacy contract outlining your compensation and responsibilities. The intended parents’ legal parentage will be finalized through court filings after pregnancy. We provide legal referrals to ensure your rights are fully protected.
