What we look for in a surrogate

Every requirement exists for one reason — to protect you and the baby. Here's what each one means and why it matters.

  • Between 21 and 38 years old — the ideal age range for a healthy, supported pregnancy
  • A U.S. citizen — required for legal surrogacy agreements
  • Non-smoker and substance-free — must pass a drug test
  • Not receiving government assistance — surrogacy compensation is separate from public benefits
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation — for appointments and prenatal care
Woman smiling outdoors — placeholder
  • At least one successful pregnancy and delivery — your body has already shown it knows what to do
  • Currently raising at least one child — your firsthand understanding of parenthood matters deeply
  • No more than 2 prior C-sections — to keep surgical risk low for your safety
  • No major pregnancy complications like preeclampsia or preterm labor — we want your next pregnancy to be just as smooth
Mother with child — placeholder
  • A BMI of 30 or under — we want to make sure your body is ready for a safe pregnancy
  • Good overall physical and mental health — you'll be supported every step of the way
  • No chronic conditions that could complicate pregnancy — your wellbeing is our top priority
  • Comfortable with IVF medication and injections — our team walks you through every step
  • A psychological evaluation takes place later in the process (after matching, during clinic screening) — it's a chance to make sure you feel prepared and supported
Healthy active woman — placeholder
  • A stable, supportive living situation — surrogacy is a team effort, and your home environment matters
  • A supportive partner or family — you don't have to do this alone, and we love when your people are behind you
  • Financially stable — surrogacy compensation should be a bonus, not a necessity
  • Able to pass a background check (partner/spouse too) — standard for everyone's peace of mind
  • Genuinely committed to the full journey — from matching through delivery, we're in this together
Happy family at home — placeholder

Common Questions

Questions about requirements

We hear these questions all the time — and we love answering them.

Yes! Many of our surrogates have had C-sections. We allow up to two prior C-sections. Your OB history will be reviewed during the medical screening to make sure everything looks good for another pregnancy. If you're unsure, reach out to us — we're happy to discuss your specific situation.

Not necessarily. While some surrogates do have their own insurance, the intended parents typically provide a comprehensive surrogacy-specific health insurance policy that covers the entire pregnancy and delivery. During your consultation, we'll review your current coverage and make sure you're fully protected. Reach out to us to discuss your specific situation.

Absolutely. You don't need to be married or in a relationship to become a surrogate. What matters most is that you have a strong support system — whether that's family, friends, or your community. Many of our most successful surrogates have been single moms. Reach out to us to discuss your specific situation.

Being on antidepressants is generally a disqualifier for surrogacy. However, if you have been off antidepressants for a minimum of 6 months, we may be able to consider your application. If antidepressants were taken during a previous pregnancy and post-delivery, your case will be highly scrutinized. We evaluate each situation with compassion and privacy — reach out to us to discuss your specific circumstances.

The online application takes about 15 minutes. After that, the screening and approval process includes interviews, obtaining your pregnancy and delivery medical records, pap smears, drug testing, criminal background checks, OB clearances, and a home visit. The psychological evaluation comes later — after matching, during the clinic screening phase. Once approved, matching with intended parents can happen quickly — we have parents waiting! Reach out to us to discuss your specific situation.

Gestational surrogacy does not use your own eggs, so it has no impact on your fertility. The process is essentially the same as a standard IVF pregnancy. Most surrogates go on to have their own children afterward without any issues. Your reproductive health is always a priority. Reach out to us to discuss your specific situation.
